ABOUT ABILITIES GROUP

At Abilities, we have a rich history of empowering individuals with disabilities through meaningful employment opportunities. Founded in 1959, our mission has been to provide work for people with disabilities in as close to normal conditions as possible. To create an inclusive work environment, we also employ able-bodied individuals alongside those with disabilities.

Over the past 60 years, the employment opportunities provided by the Abilities Group have ensured our staff members feel valued and part of their communities, which boosts their self-worth and broadens their abilities.

We’re proud to have made a significant impact in the lives of so many disabled individuals and their families. By providing meaningful work opportunities, we’re helping to break down barriers and create a brighter, more inclusive Aotearoa.

Whether you need help with a one-time project or ongoing support, you can count on us to deliver results that meet your expectations and help you achieve your goals.

OUR HISTORY

We have been providing employment and training opportunities for people with disabilities for over six decades. Founded in the late 1950s as the Auckland Occupational Therapy Workshop located at Barrys Point Road, Takapuna the group initially focused on handcrafted items such as pottery and woodwork. However, recognizing the potential of the waste management industry, the group shifted their focus in the 1980s and changed their name to Abilities Group.

Over the years, the Abilities Group has expanded its services and moved its operations to various locations throughout Auckland until we came to our current home at 91 Hillside Road, Glenfield. However, our commitment to providing employment and training opportunities for people with disabilities has remained a core part of our mission.

Today, we are a leader in the waste management industry in New Zealand, offering services such as secure document destruction, e-waste recycling, and packaging waste management, all while promoting environmentally friendly practices. By using our services, individuals and businesses can support a good cause while also reducing their environmental impact.
